Yellow Moong Dhal
06 Main Veg - Yellow Moong Dhal
1 Cup Yellow Moong Dhal
1 chopped Onion
1 Green Chilli slit and de-seeded
Few sprigs of Curry leaves
1/2 Teaspoon crushed Ginger
1/2 Teaspoon crushed Garlic
1/2 Teaspoon crushed Green Chili
1/2 Teaspoon crushed Red Chili
1/2 Teaspoon ground Coriander
1/2 Teaspoon ground Cumin
1/2 Teaspoon Chilli powder
1/2 Teaspoon Turmeric
1/2 Teaspoon Salt (to taste)
1/2 Tomato cubed or blended
1 Cup Boiling Water
Fresh Green Coriander to Garnish
Soak dhal in boiling water overnight or for a few hours.
Braise the onion, with green chilli & curry leaves for a few minutes until the onions are translucent.
Then add spices and braise for a few minutes
Add tomato & cook for a few minutes.
Drain the dhal and add with 1 cup boiling water.
Cook on low till dhal is cooked soft and all water evaporated.
NB. Do not stir too much so the dhal retains its shape.
If the dhal has not softened enough add small amounts of water and cook until ready.
Garnish with chopped green coriander.
