Spur-style Onion Rings
06 Main Beef - Spur-style Onion Rings
1 Large Onion
500 ml Milk
7 Heaped Tablespoon Flour
1 Tablespoon Paprika
1 1/2 Teaspoon Onion or Garlic Powder
Salt to taste
Slice the onions - thin long slices and separate strands or cut rings but slit the rings to open up.
Place the onions into a flat dish and pour with the milk. Cover with cling wrap and set aside in the fridge for about an hour.
Mix remaining dry ingredients in a bowl.
Heat oil in a pot for deep frying at about medium heat.
Remove a batch of onions (enough to fit into the pot) allowing the excess milk to drip off and drop into the flour to coat the onions
Fry until golden brown.
Remove onions from the oil and allow to rest on paper towels on a large tray so that the onions don't get soggy.
Repeat the process until the onions are finished.
